A pair of very different Isuzu D-Maxes were unveiled last month, with the new Arctic Trucks AT35 breaking cover in pre-production guise, alongside a D-Max Utility Tipper Conversion.

Keeping with tradition, the AT35 combines the firm's top-spec interior with go-anywhere attitude – hence the 35in tyres and wildly flared arches.

Icelandic firm Arctic Trucks has strengthened the chassis and installed Bilstein performance suspension, but otherwise it's business as usual with the 1.9-litre diesel engine tuned to deliver 164hp and 360Nm.

Most of the changes come inside the D-Max, where Arctic Trucks-branded headrests, floor mats and sill covers are paired with a leather interior. A 9in touchscreen infotainment system has smartphone mirroring and the cabin also benefits from dual-zone climate control and a sound system that includes eight speakers and a subwoofer.

There's no shortage of driver aids, either, with lane-keeping assist, a rear camera, parking sensors, cruise control, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking all part of a pretty extensive package.

All models get Isuzu's five-year, 125,000-mile warranty and order books are set to open on 14 February 2022.

After teaming up with TGS on the Tipper Conversion, Isuzu now has a concept vehicle with a bespoke aluminium tipper body. Based on a donor D-Max Utility Extended Cab, the industrial makeover features a double-action scissor lifting mechanism powered by an electro-hydraulic power pack.

An upgraded VB Tech air suspension system has also been installed, which keeps the D-Max's 1,161kg payload intact, despite taking the gross weight above 3,500kg.

Surviving features from the utilitarian D-Max include vinyl flooring, steel wheels and black plastic bumpers, door handles and door mirrors. There are also driver aids such as trailer sway control, hill start assist and hill descent control.
